Tamaño del distrito y voto estratégico en España

En este estudio se analizan los efectos psicológicos del sistema electoral, prestándose atención a la influencia del tamaño o magnitud del distrito electoral en la utilización estratégica del voto en las elecciones del Congreso de los Diputados. Para medir la incidencia del voto estratégico en el comportamiento de los votantes españoles entre 1982 y 2000 se aplican los diversos enfoques propuestos para estudiar este fenómeno. Los resultados permiten afirmar que la variable institucional constituida por el sistema electoral ?el tamaño o la dimensión del distrito, o sea, la diferencia entre distritos grandes y pequeños? influye en el comportamiento de los electores.

The current paper focuses on the Spanish electoral rules governing political competition for the central “Congreso de los Diputados”. It is well-documented that the system as a whole has traditionally favoured one or the other of the two main political parties (PP and PSOE) at the expense of proportionality and the remaining political parties. This paper focuses on some key Spanish electoral rules and investigates how much the observed biases could be altered by introducing some alternative rules taken from the Swedish electoral system, ceteris paribus. Romania: Regional Persistence in a Highly Nationalized Party System

Romania has a nationalized party system whereby the effective number of parliamentary parties has gone down and the left-right dimension of political competition has become consolidated. Statewide parties manage to electorally homogenize the electorate through using a similar electoral system for regional and national elections and by holding regional elections just before national elections. However, in this chapter, we also find that regional parties are persistently present in some regions and some of them mobilize voters along an ethno-cultural dimension. IndElec: A Software for Analyzing Party Systems and Electoral Systems

IndElec is a software addressed to compute a wide range of indices from electoral data, which are intended to analyze both party systems and electoral systems in political studies. Further, IndElec can calculate such indices from electoral data at several levels of aggregation, even when the acronyms of some political parties change across districts.
